Drawing - Baby Alligator

posted in Art |

November 11th, 2006 - I took quite a long break from drawing, but finally picked up the pencil again and got to work. The image looks a little weird but is from a real photograph of a baby alligator hatching out of it’s egg. No particular reason that I remember for choosing this image to draw.

Analysis - I’ve lost my shading touch after not drawing for some time. I’m really not satisfied with how the shading is done on the body nor the shadows. I did however spend a lot of time on the details of the alligator including the scales and wrinkles. I guess my focus was on these at the time.

Note - I’ve decided to start posting my drawings to my blog. For a few reasons… To share the art, to stimulate me to draw more, and to keep a record of them all. Click on the small image to get the larger size view. There will be a small flood of posts as I put up all of my back dated drawings, then only as I produce new works. :)
