Drawing - Running Horse

posted in Art |

December 15th, 2006 - For Briana’s 10th Birthday she chose a horse as the subject she’d most like me to draw for her. Although she knew the subject, she didn’t know what I would choose, so there would still be an element of surprise. I looked up horse images on Google and narrowed the final choice down to this one because of the beautiful lines and muscles showing while the horse is running. Up to this point, this is the picture I spend the most amount of time on… probably over 20 hours. This is a bigger drawing too. It’s on a full sheet of paper.

Analysis - Even almost 2 years later as I look at the drawing I see very few flaws worth pointing out to myself. The shading is fantastic for my level of drawing, the lines are great, the eye have great expression. I guess if I had to pick something to work on… it would be not needing the hard line on the outside of the body to affectively delineate the subject.

Note - I’ve decided to start posting my drawings to my blog. For a few reasons… To share the art, to stimulate me to draw more, and to keep a record of them all. Click on the small image to get the larger size view. There will be a small flood of posts as I put up all of my back dated drawings, then only as I produce new works. :)
