Galapagos Islands
As I sat down to write about my trip to the Galapagos Islands, I began to think how small and ordinary the tales I was about to tell in comparison to the wonder and incredible beauty of the animals I saw.
There is something so amazing about swimming with sea lions, turtles, penguins and iguanas; when you are just a visitor in their environment and they continue right about their business and will approach within inches of you out of curiosity.
If you’ve got an interest in biology, ecology, evolution, wild animals, or mostly unspoiled environments… then the Galapagos is a place I would recommend for you. It won’t be a cheap trip, but it is well worth it.
As is always the case, pictures don’t do the reality justice. And I can’t seem to find the words to describe the reality either, so I will leave that for possibly another day.
Since I booked the tour last minute (In fact I booked it only 2 days before the tour started), I got a great deal of only paying about $1000 for the 8 day tour including airfare. I booked through Galasam International and was on an Economic class ship (instead of the First class I was hoping for but beggars can’t be choosers.)
I had never been on a ship in the open ocean before and was prepared for getting seasick, but found that I handled it just fine. Also it was interesting that after the end of the trip you get the reverse motion sickness a little when you stay on land
