Leaving for Japan!

I’m finally taking my dream trip to Japan! I’ve been planning this trip for about 3 years, so it’s a long time coming. And because it’s the place I most want to visit, I made sure to plan to be over there for the maximum time that the standard US Passport instant visa will allow…

Want to know what kind of stuff I’ll be doing over there? Then read on…

My General Plan

I’ll be arriving in Tokyo a day before Golden Week starts, and will be going on a sight seeing trip with a bunch of other CouchSurfers during the five days of Golden Week. What a great way to get me a little acclimatized to Japan! :)

After that I’ll be back in Tokyo on my own for a couple of weeks, then will get my Japan Rail Pass and start traveling all over the country. My plans are to find night trains, sleep during the trip, explore during the day, and move on again the next night. We’ll see how well that works. LOL

At the end of the week of train travel, I will end up in Osaka for a week plus, hopefully visiting Nara and Kyoto for a day each. And then begins the 88 Shrine Pilgrimage on Shikoku island. This will last about 6 weeks or so, and I have a few week buffer at the end to either extend the pilgrimage if needed, or do whatever else I would like.

Through research, I’ve come up with some things I’m interested in seeing and put them on a custom google map. You can check it out below and zoom around to the various places.

Also, I have more detail of sights to see in:
