Drawing - Orchid

September 18th, 2008 - This was drawn from a real object instead of a picture, which requires a bit more interpretation of the subtle light shades and proportions. It was a good subject to draw as the colors and textures are fairly simple.

Drawing - Giraffes

Completed color drawing of two giraffes October 10th, 2008 - It’s been another spell since my last drawing, but a water brother** of mine wanted to draw with me, so I asked her to pick a subject. She chose the Giraffes from an animal book of mine and I started drawing…

** (If you are unfamiliar with the reference it is from “Stranger in a strange land” by Robert Heinlein, but I haven’t found a description online anything like the true meaning you get from reading the book, so if you want to know what I mean… you’ll have to read the book.)

Drawing - Niko

Drawing of a Siamese Cat (Niko) on 2008.07.28July 28th, 2008 - Another birthday drawing for Aleah. Knowing what I was going to do for her birthday, she asked that I draw her a picture of Niko. Well at first she had about 5 other suggestions that changed each time she mentioned it, but finally settled on her cat. :) She didn’t however know what picture I was going to draw from. This is a fairly common position for him. Draping his legs over the back of a chair and just hanging out. What a silly cat.

Drawing - Quarter

Drawing of a US Quarter on 2008.03.14March 14th, 2008 - Finding something to draw when you’re not really in the mood can be difficult. My daughters again wanted me to draw with them, so I randomly picked out a quarter and thought it would be interesting to sketch.

Drawing - Tiger

Drawing of a tiger for Briana\'s 11th BirthdayJanuary 20th, 2008 - It’s another birthday!! Briana asked for a tiger, and since my last drawing for Aleah was in color I wanted to draw this one in color too. I worked on it during a ski trip to Whistler and really focused on the face of the tiger. I was running right down to the wire on finishing it, so the body is a little under finished… but it helps to bring out the face and expression of the subject that much more.

Drawing - Black Widow

November 11th, 2007 - It’s been a fair amount of time since I have drawn anything. Finally my daughters just asked me to draw with them for an hour or so and I got into it. I choose the spider out of the blue, but liked the lines and the dark coloring which forces some pre-thought on how you’ll do the shading.

Drawing - Parrots

July 15th, 2006 - Another birthday for my daughter Aleah. Since they now know what they’re getting for their birthday, they start asking for certain subjects. Aleah asked me to draw a few different types of birds, and so I chose these for their colors and poses. Although they weren’t originally in the configuration you see here, I drew them in this way to give a representation of Me and my two daughters.

Drawing - The Blue Spark

April 9th, 2007 - I occasionally go down to a local bar to listen to ‘open mike’ night. And on this particular evening I thought I’d take my sketchbook and draw as I was listening. I really liked the look of all the bottles on the bar, and just started drawing.

Drawing - Woman in shadows

February 1st, 2007 - Ah! The beauty of a woman! The human body is a wonder of shades, highlights and textures. It’s also one of the most difficult things to draw because we are so adept at picking out flaws in the human form. Faces and hands are the most difficult part, so I chose a picture where the face was hidden and I could just focus on the body.

Drawing - Angelfish

January 4th, 2007 - Another image chosen purely for how it looked and what I felt like drawing. It wasn’t a very challenging drawing other than the scales taking a long time.
